Industrial Hygienist
About the role
This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for an Industrial Hygienist to join our Mining Industrial Hygiene practice. The position will provide technical support on a variety of industrial hygiene (IH) and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) projects, primarily industrial hygiene assessment planning, fieldwork participation, and sampling, reporting, and client communication. This position will be based out of Lakewood, CO office. The following locations will also be considered: Phoenix, AZ and Tucson, AZ.
Responsibilities
- Take the lead in IH-related field assignments such as performing industrial hygiene monitoring, noise assessments, hazardous materials surveying and abatement monitoring, indoor air quality assessments, chemical inventory assessments, ergonomics assessments, job hazard assessments, and similar assignments.
- Affiliate with senior staff in conducting EHS audits and EHS program development.
- Collect and document field data and observations in a clear and organized manner utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment and workspace monitoring equipment.
- Analyze, evaluate, and interpret field and analytical data obtained during field investigations.
- Evaluate findings, make recommendations, and prepare written and verbal reports.
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations.
- Write technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, field/work site notes, and software.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or Safety Engineering, or other related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of experience working as an Industrial Hygienist.
- Proficiency with IH sampling techniques and equipment.
- Familiar with relevant occupational health and safety laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Must be able to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of mine sites and to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
- Self-sufficient, self-motivated and ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace health and safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety Engineering, or other related discipline.
- Experience with mining and industry settings and other manufacturing environments.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Pay
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $65,300 - $95,600
Schedule
Amount of out of town travel would depend on hiring location and could reach 50% of time.
