Industrial Engineer Sr/Specialist
About the role
General Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking an Industrial Engineer to support the simultaneous build of VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA class submarines at our Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI. The Industrial Engineering Organization provides mission-critical support to EB Leadership and functional organizations through implementation of the EB Production System, developing and managing improvement strategies, measuring impact, and establishing production processes.
The Industrial Engineer ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing processes on the deck plate. Partnering with Operations Management (Ops Manager, Superintendent, & Supervisors) and Production Control Planners, the IE shares ownership of manufacturing performance. This role involves establishing repeatable and predictable production processes, material management strategies, production standards, and adhering to productivity targets while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Directly support Operations to ensure production processes and unit operations run at optimum conditions.
- Provide daily operational troubleshooting and problem-solving for emergent issues; analyze and resolve production problems.
- Evaluate and maintain production process capability; provide documented OQE to ensure processes are efficient and capable of achieving production goals.
- Evaluate manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for improved technology and equipment.
- Monitor overall process operations and develop solutions to technical problems using industrial engineering and/or lean manufacturing principles.
- Develop manufacturing processes for new products (CLB and/or VPM).
- Study and recommend process improvements to increase productivity, improve quality, and reduce waste.
- Track production metrics and process capability.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
- 5+ years of professional Engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma.
- Experience in a manufacturing setting on the production floor.
- Experience tracking production metrics and process capability.
