About the role
Under the direction of the Assistant Facilities Manager, the Industrial Electrician performs routine maintenance and integration of electrical systems in a dynamic industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Performs routine maintenance, installation, and integration of process control instrumentation equipment such as transmitters, controllers, integrators, recorders, square root extractors, and final drive elements.
- Makes repairs to electrical power, motor, and motor control circuits.
- Prepares for inclement weather by checking heat tape, boarding windows, securing loose equipment, and other related tasks as directed.
- Develops, prepares, and presents recommendations and reports as requested.
- Conducts field fault analysis to determine if instrumentation failure is due to equipment or process issues.
- Performs field calibration of instrumentation using proper test equipment.
- Completes overhauls in a shop environment, including component replacements, alignments, and calibration to specifications.
- Repairs signal transmission facilities such as tubing and wiring.
- Works with pneumatic, electronic, and digital instrumentation.
- Performs fault analysis of hardwire relay logic, motor control circuits, motor power circuits (120V to 480V 3-phase), and utility/lighting circuits.
- Installs new control circuits and modifies existing instrument/electrical systems, including design, load calculations, and implementation of new control logic.
- Performs fault analysis of PLC-based systems with control logic modifications if required.
- Analyzes 12.47kV incoming power service.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or GED required.
- Diploma from an accredited Technical School or military electrical/electronic training is required. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of ten years of field experience in an industrial environment is acceptable.
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial electrical experience in a process facility.
- Minimum of 5 years of strong troubleshooting skills on motors, MCCs, VFDs, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience following LOTO and permit-to-work procedures.
Skills and Competencies
- General knowledge of plant safety rules.
- Ability to read and interpret MSDS and locate the MSDS book.
- Knowledge of quality policy and objectives.
- Ability to support projects from design through commissioning (turnkey project execution).
- Proficiency in both oral and written communication.
- Ability to interpret schematic drawings (to component level) of pneumatic loops, hardware relay logic diagrams, PLC control programs, and motor control circuit diagrams.
- Ability to associate circuit symbols with actual components, including solid-state electronics (transistors, integrated chips, resistors, capacitors) and industrial electrical hardware (relays, contactors, starters).
- Good mathematical skills, including basic algebra for electrical/electronic calculations and basic trigonometry for vector calculations in VFD systems.
- Ability to install electrical conduit of various trade sizes (PVC, EMT, rigid) and instrumentation tubing.
- Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch; occasionally required to sit.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift 50 pounds, and occasionally move or manipulate drums weighing between 200-500 pounds.
