About the Role

The Industrial Electrical Registered Apprenticeship Adjunct plays a crucial role in supporting individuals pursuing Registered Apprenticeships in the manufacturing field. This position provides skillsets to interact with manufacturers who need to enhance their workforce to address the unique challenges of electrical maintenance on the manufacturing floor. The adjunct is involved in evaluating and delivering curriculum in this topic area.

The Industrial Electrical Registered Apprenticeship Adjunct reports directly to the Senior Program Manager for Workforce Training.

Responsibilities

• Ensure curriculum aligns with Registered Apprenticeship requirements and meets customer needs.
• Build and maintain relationships with manufacturing employers to understand their hiring needs and identify potential job opportunities for participants.
• Stay current on industry trends, job market information, and best practices in workforce development.
• Assist in teaching key components for electrical apprentices, including:
  • Installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, including motors, drives, PLCs, and control panels.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Working with voltages up to 600VAC, including 480 VAC and 277 VAC.
  • Troubleshooting electrical faults and assisting in root cause analysis.
  • Participating in scheduled maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Using diagnostic tools and software for monitoring system performance.
  • Following all applicable safety standards and regulations, including OSHA and NFPA 70E.
  • Applying internal safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and electrical safety practices.
  • Properly using and maintaining personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Understanding hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanics.
  • Using electrical test meters and equipment to diagnose breakdowns.
  • Planning electrical jobs, calculating, and ordering supplies/materials.
  • Problem-solving and evaluating breakdowns for repairs.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
  • Attending regular meetings, safety briefings, and training sessions.
  • Demonstrating reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Accurately recording all maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and replacements.

Requirements

• Completed registered apprenticeship program with minimum of Journeyman status.
• Demonstrated experience in workforce training or industry mentoring for Registered Apprentices.
• Knowledge of the electrical and manufacturing industry and related trades preferred.

Skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent organizational and case management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software applications.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Environment

Work is performed in a combination of classroom, lab, and manufacturing floor environments. The position requires periods of standing, walking, and facilitating hands-on instruction. Interruptions may occur due to student needs, employer coordination, or training adjustments.

When visiting employer sites or conducting instruction in industrial labs, the adjunct may be exposed to typical manufacturing conditions such as noise, moving machinery, varying temperatures, and occasional use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Light to moderate lifting (up to 40 lbs.) may be required for instructional materials or equipment. The role involves regular use of electrical testing instruments, computers, and instructional technology.

Evening or weekend hours may be necessary to meet apprenticeship training schedules and employer needs.
