About the role
The FastTraCS service within the NC TraCS Institute focuses on identifying, supporting, and advancing the commercialization of translational research. The NC TraCS Institute is funded by the National Institutes of Health through the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program, a five-year, $58 million grant dedicated to improving the health of North Carolinians.
Responsibilities
- Cultivate and leverage relationships with clinicians, staff, and researchers across the UNC Health system to identify unmet medical needs and develop patient-centered solutions.
- Work closely with the FastTraCS team to prioritize opportunities and rapidly design, prototype, test, and validate innovative concepts.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to innovate in the medical device field.
- Ensure compliance with medical device regulations and quality systems (ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820).
Requirements
- Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent), or 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
- Familiarity with design thinking, human factors, CAD/CAM, rapid prototyping, and 3D printing.
- Experience with medical device innovation processes, including BioDesign.
- Strong teamwork and relationship management skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in required discipline(s) listed or related field, or Master's degree or Doctorate degree in required discipline(s) listed or related field.
Skills
Experience in design thinking, human factors, CAD/CAM, rapid prototyping, and 3D printing, along with familiarity with medical device regulations and quality systems (ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820) and design for manufacturability.
