About the Role
This role supports large commercial projects by coordinating and planning the design and construction of electric and gas service installations, upgrades, remodels, and line extensions. The Industrial Designer acts as the main point-of-contact for large commercial/industrial customers, providing excellent customer service throughout the work management process.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates and plans the design and construction of electric and gas service installations, upgrades, remodels, and line extensions for large commercial/industrial customers.
- Acts as the customer point-of-contact by receiving and responding to customer phone calls and emails.
- Schedules and attends meetings and conducts site visits.
- Conducts field surveying and staking.
- Develops job sketches using Designer/GIS.
- Develops construction job packages specifying material, equipment, and labor requirements for each job.
- Creates accurate Contributions in Aid of Construction (CIAC) for customer projects.
- Conducts initial reviews of designs provided by Design Contractors, as directed.
- Verifies as-builts to ensure accuracy and completeness, as directed.
- Acquires easements and permits.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Applied knowledge of design and construction standards and requirements.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, making independent decisions and recommendations.
- Ability to effectively coordinate and prioritize assigned projects to meet customer expectations.
- Ability to interact with customers and address concerns, providing exceptional customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate the preparation of high-quality job sketches.
- Handles increasingly complex work content.
- Valid Class C Texas Driver’s license with a favorable driving record.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree OR experience in commercial utility-scale distribution planning or commercial utility construction.
- CAD/GIS or other technical experience.
- Currently a Designer 1 or 2 with a strong background in commercial utility-scale distribution planning or commercial utility construction experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to apply broad knowledge of design and construction standards to be considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Technical expertise in Electric Line Extension Policy and Gas Line Extension Policy.
- Extensive background in utility-scale distribution planning or utility construction experience.
- Extensive knowledge and demonstrated application of Electric Line Extension Policy and Gas Line Extension Policy.

Working Environment
Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Requires manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Involves use of computing equipment, telephone, and printer/copier. Ability to travel to and from business-related events. After-hours work may be required.
Pay Grade: 13. Qualifications may warrant placement in a different job level.
