About the role
An Industrial Counter Sales employee supports all aspects of branch operations, including product handling, inventory maintenance, and customer service for both walk-in and phone/electronic sales in a friendly, fast-paced team environment.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the highest level of customer service and ethics.
- Address and resolve all customer requests and/or complaints using a positive, creative approach.
- Assist customers and respond to inquiries in a timely manner with effective selling skills.
- Provide customer support with technical product information.
- Generate and maintain accurate required documentation.
- Estimate delivery dates based on inventory levels, supplier availability, and production schedules.
- Conduct outbound lead follow-ups to potential and existing customers via phone, email, mail, and fax.
- Participate in product training to build required product knowledge.
- Collaborate with departments and personnel to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Receive products, including unloading, verifying, and entering into the system.
- Allocate, distribute, pull, and pick products, placing them in proper locations.
- Package and stage materials or products for shipping (shrink wrapping, boxing, labeling).
- Ship products using various methods, from national carriers to customer vehicles.
- Assist with inventory control and cycle counting.
- Administer quality control to prevent damaged product from being received or sent.
- Perform assembly production, including building small to large hoses and operating swagers.
- Fabricate and use complex machinery for kitting manufacturing as required.
- Complete forklift and safety orientation; operate forklift as needed.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
- Comply with all company rules, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
- Good customer service and communication skills.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), with a willingness to learn new software programs.
- Experience with Epicor Prophet 21 is a plus.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Detail-oriented with solid organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong listening skills, above-average reasoning ability, and minimal mistakes.
- Ability to quickly assimilate product knowledge and skills.
- Experience with industrial distribution, preferably fluid power components, is preferred.
- Familiarity with industrial and hydraulic hose and fittings, especially Parker Hannifin, is a plus.
- Mechanical background and forklift certification (applicable state certification) are a plus.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people and personalities.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Frequent lifting up to 70 pounds, stooping, reaching above shoulder level, pushing, pulling, and constant walking/standing on cement flooring.
- Climbing ladders as needed.
- Work environment may include warehouses with moving equipment, fluctuating temperatures, and inventory in various storage arrangements.
- Exposure to office work, manufacturing, machine shops, agricultural operations, and other business operations of current or potential customers.

Pay
$20 - $24 per hour, commensurate with skills and experience.
