Income Maintenance Caseworker II (NEMT)

As an Income Maintenance Caseworker II – NEMT, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring Alamance County Medicaid recipients have reliable access to medical care by coordinating non-emergency transportation services. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, helping people navigate systems, and managing details in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
All DSS positions are subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as required and may be required to staff shelter overnight.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and authorize Non-Emergency Medicaid Transportation (NEMT) services
- Log and track trip requests, approvals, denials, and required notifications
- Verify Medicaid eligibility at the time of request and prior to service delivery
- Conduct eligibility determinations and re-determinations through assessments
- Document eligibility decisions and maintain accurate transportation records
- Upload payment authorizations and review response files in NC Tracks
- Operate the NEMT phone system, responding to calls and messages within 24 hours
- Collaborate with transportation vendors, community partners, and internal teams
- Process mileage reimbursement and other travel-related expenses
Qualifications
- High school diploma and three years of paraprofessional, clerical, or public-contact experience involving tasks such as interviewing, negotiating, explaining information, data collection/analysis, or mathematical/legal work; or
- High school diploma and two years of similar experience, including at least one year in an income-maintenance program; or
- Associate degree in Human Services Technology, Social Services, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related field; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
To fully qualify as an IMC II, candidates must have at least one year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A work against is offered.

- Health Insurance: Full-time employees are eligible for medical/health (Cigna Insurance) benefits upon the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment. Alamance County Government currently offers three plans of medical/pharmacy benefit options including 2 Standard PPO plans and a High-Deductible Health Plan with HSA.

- Life Insurance: Basic term life insurance is the amount of one times the annual salary (no greater than $70,000) is provided for all full-time employees. Additional coverage is available for purchase through payroll deductions for employee and eligible dependents.
- Retirement Benefits: Membership in the NC Local Government Employees Retirement System (NCLGERS) is a requirement for all full-time and regular part-time employees (working more than 1,000 hours annually). Employees contribute six percent (6%) of their annual compensation before it is taxed.
- Time Off Accruals:
- Vacation Time: Annual Leave is accrued based on years of service. Employees can accrue from 10-25 days per year.
- Sick Time: All County full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.
- County Observed Holidays: Alamance County will observe the State of North Carolina Holiday Schedule.
