In-School Suspension Assistant (26-27)

General Definition of Work

The in-school suspension assistant, under general supervision, creates a flexible instructional program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. Employee performs entry level work and cooperates with classroom teachers in assigning work and ensuring its completion. This position motivates and counsels students to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to ensure that effective learning occurs.

• Knowledgeable of federal, state, and local regulatory policies relating to education.
• Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs.

• Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships.

• Ability to be maintain confidentiality regarding school system business.

• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation.
• Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings.

Education and Experience

• Associate's degree or two years of higher education equivalent to 48 credit hours or ability to pass a formal assessment (Workkey and 96 hours of in-service training) or completion of the NC DOL Apprenticeship Program or completion of the NC ATA Professional Development Plan required.
• Associate's degree with a concentration in Education preferred.
• Two plus years working with elementary age children preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
