About the Role
We have opportunities in Reading and Math. You will be able to become an expert tutor in either or both.
As a Reading Tutor at Braintrust Tutors, you will work with elementary school students in a school setting to strengthen their reading comprehension, fluency, and critical thinking skills. Using our structured intervention programs and materials, you will deliver consistent, high-impact tutoring that meets each student where they are.
As a Math Tutor at Braintrust Tutors, you will work with students to strengthen their mathematical reasoning, number sense, and problem-solving strategies. You will provide engaging, consistent lessons using Braintrust Tutors' curriculum and materials, helping students build foundational math skills and confidence.
As an in-person tutor, our priority will be to match you with those engagements. However, you may be considered for additional online roles if you would like to complete your schedule with us.
Employment Type: This is a part-time contractor 1099 role. Estimated starting date: Mid-September or Early October.
Schedule
- 12-14 weeks per engagement
- Opportunities in the Fall (Sep to Dec) and Spring (Jan to May) semesters
- School-day hours
- 3-4 days per week, 4 to 6 sessions of 45 minutes each
To be considered, interested applicants must be available for the entire schedule.
Pay
$60/hour, prorated by session.
Responsibilities
- Provide small-group reading/math tutoring to students developing literacy skills
- Implement Braintrust Tutors' intervention programs as designed, using all materials with fidelity
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic performance
- Collaborate with the Braintrust Tutors Operations team and school staff to support student growth
- Foster a supportive and engaging classroom environment that promotes focus and confidence
- Follow school-site procedures and policies while maintaining a professional and dependable presence
- Use the provided assessments and progress monitoring tools for understanding to guide instruction
- Manage time effectively during sessions to complete all planned instructional activities
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
- Active/expired teaching license or at least 5 years of experience working with K-8 students in an educational environment
- Reading Tutors: Experience with reading instruction that includes morphology-based word study, vocabulary development, reading comprehension strategies, and writing skills covering grammar, syntax, and multi-paragraph composition using a structured scope and sequence
- Math Tutors: Knowledge of math instruction that builds number sense, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills, with a scope and sequence ranging from counting to multi-digit arithmetic, including decimals and fractions
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Comfort collaborating with teachers and staff
- Punctuality, professionalism, and reliability for all scheduled sessions
- Reliable transportation and/or appropriate technology for instruction
- A laptop with Windows or macOS that uses either Chrome/Edge Chrome 115+ (recommended), Firefox 115+ or Safari 16+. iPads are also acceptable with iOS 17 or greater with an external keyboard
- Passion for literacy and closing opportunity gaps
Onboarding Process
Braintrust Tutors has a multi-step onboarding process requiring approximately 4–5 hours to complete. Steps include:
- Creating a Braintrust Learning Center account
- Completing self-paced policy and curriculum modules for your chosen subject areas (Math and/or Reading)
- Setting up your platform profile with required documents
- Submitting to a background check and fingerprinting (if applicable to your assigned district)
- Attending live Zoom curriculum practice sessions
- Submitting teaching demonstration recordings
- Applying to positions
- Completing platform orientation and attending a Launch Call before beginning sessions
