In-House Trial Attorney (Hybrid-Temporary/Project Based)

Position Summary

The Legal Counsel will work in Tampa, FL, strategizing cases, exercising sound business judgment, and operating with a sense of urgency. The role is suited for experienced attorneys ready to assume responsibilities quickly.

Responsibilities

• Handle legal work on assigned cases.
• Aggressively pursue files referred to Staff Counsel by the Claims Department.
• Create and maintain a documented strategy for each case, including a synopsis of intangible factors such as the judge, plaintiff attorney, and aggravating factors.
• Develop, organize, and maintain document files consisting of pleadings, briefs, and memorandums.
• Prepare and submit timely status reports to claims handlers on all significant activities, at intervals no greater than 60 days.
• Ensure all files are properly documented and organized.
• Provide prompt and timely responses to telephone calls and correspondence.
• Utilize and/or ensure use of case management software for maintaining notes, diary, calendar, billing, etc., in accordance with company guidelines, procedures, and legal and ethical requirements.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a trial attorney.
• Experience handling insurance defense work is preferred.
• Member of the State Bar, maintaining all necessary licensing and continuing education requirements.
• Willingness to travel as needed.
