In-Home Personal Care Attendant (PCA)

About the Role

This position involves providing caregiving and personal care services to individuals who have disabilities within the comfort of their homes in the Maryville, MO area.

Responsibilities

  • Provide cleaning services including but not limited to vacuuming, dusting, washing dishes, appliance care, running errands, and laundering clothing.
  • Assist with reading and writing essential correspondence for blind, illiterate, or physically impaired individuals.
  • Provide personal care services including but not limited to hair care, assistance with bathing, and meal preparation.
  • Maintain records of service delivery including time sheets, calendars, and incident documentation.
  • Report any problems related to a participant or plan of care to supervisor.
  • Complete required hours of continued training annually to meet state eligibility guidelines.
  • Effectively and efficiently use computers or mobile devices to input, access, modify, or output information.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Physical Expectations

  • Extended periods of walking and standing with some periods of sitting, dependent upon the needs of the individuals supported.
  • Light to heavy lifting, up to fifty pounds independently.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, bending, and/or climbing stairs depending on the needs of the individual supported.
  • Occasional physical intervention if confronted by a person displaying combative or potentially dangerous behavior.

Working Conditions

  • Office/home environment with noises from appliances, telephones, and occasional small machinery (e.g., lawn mower).
  • May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and/or infectious diseases.
  • Occasionally requires prolonged hours or unusual chores to meet unexpected needs of individuals (e.g., medical and/or behavioral).

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or commitment to obtain HiSET or GED.
  • Six months of experience as a care provider, CNA, housekeeper, or household worker, or one year of experience caring for children, sick, or elderly individuals.
  • Ability to perform a variety of cleaning tasks and mobility to negotiate a variety of obstacles in client homes.
  • Ability to assess problems related to care plan and report to supervisor or RN consultant.
  • Ability to adhere to OSHA safety protocols related to occupational exposure to blood or other infectious material.
  • Must have access to mobile apps on a cell phone.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English – both in writing and orally.
  • Must not have been convicted of any disqualifying misdemeanor or felony and must not have been substantiated for abuse or neglect in the state of Missouri, as recorded by the Department of Mental Health’s Employee Disqualification List.
  • Must demonstrate safe practices in all areas and exemplify positive professional standards.
  • Must receive seasonal flu vaccination.
