In-Class Math/Science Tutor for High School - 2026-27 School Year

Summary of Position
In-Class Tutors work during the school day in assigned high school courses under the direction of the teacher. They provide academic assistance, reinforce lessons, and model good learning habits. Assignments are based on availability, subject matter knowledge, and program needs. Tutors report to the site's Program/Site Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Supports students in the classroom by providing academic assistance, reinforcing lessons, and modeling good learning habits.
- Provides small-group tutoring and/or assistance with in-class instruction, as directed by the teacher.
- Serves as a positive adult role model by maintaining appropriate behavior and ensuring the supervision and safety of assigned students.
- Communicates student needs to the Coordinator, teachers, school administration, and parents as appropriate.
- Ensures program policies, procedures, and requirements are met daily.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduation from High School
- Passing score on the district examination for Instructional Assistants (distributed in-office during the interviewing process)
- Experience working with youth, especially teens, in an educational setting is strongly desired.
- Ability to tutor and provide homework assistance in advanced math/science subjects is strongly desired.
- Interest in working with, mentoring, and tutoring at-promise teens.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, peers, school staff, and others.
- Ability to effectively tutor students in assigned subject(s).
- Ability to work as part of a team and act as a positive role model for students.
- Ability to write basic reports summarizing events.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete Live Scan and obtain Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Clearances, as well as Health Clearance (TB Test).
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
- Willingness and ability to travel anywhere in the region LEARN serves for a job assignment, off-site meetings, trainings, and events.
- Eligibility to accept all Youth Leader job assignments.
Condition of Employment & Benefits
This is a part-time casual, non-benefited, non-exempt, hourly position. It requires availability for 5 days per week, Monday through Friday, during program hours, primarily after school and occasionally on weekends. Hours vary from 15 - 30 hours per week, depending on the school and program needs. The position and all other part-time casual field staff positions are considered "school employee positions." The work calendar aligns with the academic calendars of partner school districts. The job has recess breaks during fall, winter, spring, and summer. Staff are expected to return to work after each break on the date requested by LEARN. The pay range for this role is $21 - $21 USD per hour (All Locations).
