Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with freight forwarders, brokers, and external companies.
- Work with supply chain and procurement teams to streamline import operations.
- Act as a liaison between customs authorities and the organization.
- Provide import guidance and training to internal teams.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure import compliance with all regulations and efficient delivery of goods.
- Review and process import documentation, resolving any errors or compliance issues.
- Classify and value imported goods according to US Harmonized Tariff Schedule and company standards.
- Determine tariffs, duties, taxes, and other regulatory requirements.
- Identify and ensure compliance with Partner Government Agencies regulations.
- Maintain a detailed database of import materials and transactions.
- Create and manage written procedures for each account, including classifications, fees, and processes.
- Stay up-to-date on U.S. Customs regulations and trade publications.
- Knowledge of ECCN and USML classification process.
Problem Solving & Process Improvement
- Resolve import issues (delays, documentation errors, non-compliance) and communicate with supervisors.
- Monitor trade agreements, tariffs, and regulatory changes for potential impact.
- Analyze import data to identify inefficiencies and improve processes.
- Assess and mitigate import-related risks (legal, financial, compliance).
- Conduct shipment inspections and audits to ensure quality and adherence to terms.
Minimum Qualifications
- Including Education and Experience in Related Fields: Undergraduate degree and 3-5 years of related experience and training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Intermediate to Advanced skills in Microsoft applications and SAP (or similar planning and scheduling modules).
- EAR and ITAR knowledge to process licenses with the respective government agencies.
- Experience with the ACE (Automated Commercial Environment) Portal.
- Must be able to work in a fast paced, diverse team environment.
- Good communication and organization skills and a strong attention to detail are required.
- In-depth knowledge of supply chain management systems and procedures.
- Excellent telephone mannerism with outstanding customer service skills.
- Adaptable, flexible and has the ability to adjust plans depending on urgency of tasks.
- Possess strong planning, analytical, and negotiation skills.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- National Customs Broker Association of America - Certified Customs Specialist.
- Previous experience working in the Machine Tool Industry.
- Working knowledge SAP Denied party list screening.
- Supervisory and Leadership experience.
- Working knowledge of additional languages (German and/or Spanish).
Additional Information
- Occasional local and overnight domestic and international air travel required.
- Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs with or without the assistance of crane operation.
- Ability to reach in all directions, bend, twist, stoop, sit, kneel, crawl, push and pull.
