About the Role
Under the direction of the school principal, plans and provides English language development (ELD) instruction for students identified as eligible for ELD services (formerly ESOL) through the state-mandated English language proficiency test. Collaborates with administrators, counselors, teachers, and other school staff to address the needs of individual Emergent Multilingual Learner (EML) students. Serves as a resource for information on EML students, cultural and linguistic differences, English language development, and the ELD instructional program. Provides support to explain the ELD program to parents and acts as a resource for students, parents, staff, and the community as needed.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver ELD instruction to eligible students.
- Collaborate with school staff to address the needs of EML students.
- Serve as a resource for information on ELD instruction, cultural and linguistic differences, and student needs.
- Support communication between the school and parents regarding the ELD program.
- Act as a resource for students, parents, staff, and the community.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Maryland teacher certification in ESOL/ELD.
- Considerable knowledge of second language teaching/learning methods and techniques.
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, counselors, and other school staff.
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Ability to understand and support students adjusting to the academic and cultural environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in another language in addition to English.

Pay
Salary range: $66,690 – $135,745, based on education and experience.
Schedule
- Full-time, 10-month position.
- Day shift.
