Under general supervision, performs responsible secretarial and clerical work in a large school office. Work consists of serving as the principal office assistant to one or more school administrators, providing secretarial services for assigned supervisors, and performing varied office clerical tasks. Requires responsible contacts with students, parents, and others. Employees exercise considerable independence and judgment in performing their work.

Responsibilities
- Perform secretarial and clerical duties in a large school office.
- Serve as principal office assistant to one or more school administrators.
- Provide secretarial services for assigned supervisors.
- Handle varied office clerical tasks.
- Maintain clerical records and prepare reports.
- Interact effectively with students, parents, administrative and instructional staff, school employees, and central office staff.
- Apply established policies and procedures to work problems.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and flexibility in schedule/duty assignments.
Requirements
- High School or GED diploma required.
- One year of experience performing responsible secretarial, fiscal, and clerical work in a busy office environment.
- Other combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered.
Skills
- Strong working knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic, and modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Good understanding of MCPS school office operations, and area and central office organization.
- Ability to make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Skill in operating a typewriter, word processing software, and computer equipment.
- Good human relations and communications skills.
- Ability to multi-task and demonstrate strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of and ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Pay
The wage range for this position is between $24.38 and $35.02 per hour, based on years of service.
