About the Role

Under general supervision, monitors student activities and behavior on the playground and during student lunch periods. Monitors class during testing or brief absence of teacher; may assist teachers in classroom activities, and perform general clerical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Patrol and supervise student activities on the playground and during lunch periods.
• Enforce safety rules, behavior standards, and playground/cafeteria rules and procedures.
• Monitor classes during testing or brief teacher absences.
• Assist teachers in classroom activities and perform general clerical tasks.
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and others.

Physical Demands

• Ability to patrol for extended periods of time and during all types of weather.
• Ability to supervise playground and recreational activities.

Requirements

• High School or GED diploma required.
• Experience working with children of elementary school age.
• Knowledge of applicable school regulations, practices, and procedures, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
• Knowledge of games appropriate for play during recess.
• Some knowledge of child development and student behavior management techniques.
• Ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
• First aid and CPR certificate desirable.
• Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered.

Skills

• Excellent human relations and communication skills.
• Considerable patience and demonstrated skills in working with children.
• Ability to effectively monitor elementary students.

Pay

The wage range for this position is between $21.03 and $27.17 per hour, based on years of service.
