About the role

Under general supervision, performs building cleaning, facilities and grounds maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings. This is the entry and general worker level in the building service staff positions. Employees receive on‑the‑job training in the application of simple manual skill and use of cleaning and grounds tools, equipment, and supplies to clean interior buildings and maintain grounds. The nature of the work is repetitive, requires sustained physical effort, and involves heavy work such as moving or lifting furniture and equipment, with some exposure to accident and injury hazards and disagreeable elements. Employees in this classification are considered emergency personnel and are required to report to buildings during inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Perform building cleaning, facilities and grounds maintenance in schools and administrative buildings.
• Clean interior spaces and maintain grounds using approved cleaning and grounds tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Move or lift furniture and equipment (heavy work).
• Report to buildings during inclement weather as emergency personnel.
• May be required to report to other locations to assist staff in emergency situations.
• Work frequent overtime or night shifts as needed.
• Provide and update a current working telephone number to the supervisor.
• Wear the provided uniform and proper attire.
