About the role

To be an athletics coach in MCPS, an applicant must be interviewed and hired by the principal or designee at the school where the coaching vacancy exists. Coaches must be qualified and are hired for one season. Schools must prioritize hiring qualified MCPS teachers or professional certified educators for coaching positions. Emergency coaches may be hired if no qualified MCPS teacher or professional certified educator is available.

Requirements

Certified Coach

  • Must be an MCPS teacher or professional certified educator employed by MCPS
  • Must have completed or be enrolled in the two-credit MCPS course "Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED" (offered periodically through the MCPS Athletics Unit)
  • Must complete and submit the online MCPS application

Level I Emergency Coach

  • Must be a certified teacher (though not employed by MCPS)
  • Must have completed the two-credit MCPS course "Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED" (offered periodically through the MCPS Athletics Unit)
  • Must complete and submit the online MCPS application

Level II Emergency Coach

  • Must be a high school graduate
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have completed the two-credit MCPS course "Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED" (offered periodically through the MCPS Athletics Unit)
  • Must complete and submit the online MCPS application

Pay

Wage range depends on multiple factors, including the nature of the project, prior experience in MCPS, and current negotiated agreements. For specific wage information, contact the hiring manager.

Schedule

  • This is a Temporary Part-Time (TPT) position without benefits.
  • Working months: 00 (seasonal)
