About the role

The Controls Team focuses on the design and modeling of a diverse range of dynamic mechatronic systems. This includes the integration and programming of the devices that will control the equipment and interface with material delivery and sortation systems throughout the plant. Works with the electrical design and overall project teams to document systems, coordinate electrical standardization, and ensure consistency between projects. Designs and drafts control systems for material handling solutions using AutoCAD Electrical as needed. Drawing sets include device layout drawings, control schematics, panel layouts, and network and installation details.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of new products for material handling applications including conveyors, sortation, automated storage, order fulfillment, and robotic systems. Includes development of specifications, device layout drawings, control schematics, PLC logic.
  • Collaborate and review with others on the development team to develop products.
  • Ensure products developed fit with current and future manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure products developed meet competitive and market demands for performance and cost.
  • Specify and develop a sequence of operations of automated equipment.
  • Prepare schematics and specifications for control panel fabrication.
  • Maintain product development schedules and cost estimates.
  • Follow established engineering standards and best practices including software revision control.
  • Support prototype development and testing.
  • Support on-site beta testing to ensure safety, reliability, and other performance metrics are met.
  • Investigate product issues in the field and determine root cause.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience, such as an internship, with the material handling industry.
  • Experience with sortation and conveyance equipment or robotics design preferred.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley control software and tools preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical and safety codes for machine and equipment design including execution of risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation systems, including HMI and SCADA.
  • Knowledge of controls/controllers and PLCs preferred.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative.
