About the Program

Superior Ambulance Service, founded in 1959, is the largest independent, locally owned, and operated emergency medical services provider in the Midwest. The company employs over 4,000 licensed EMTs, Paramedics, and Nurses, operating a fleet of more than 800 ambulances across Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin, with over 55 locations. Superior also provides Critical Care, helicopter, and fixed-wing emergency medical transportation.

Admission to Superior's EMT Class is based on an entrance assessment and other pre-screening steps.

Program Details

• Format: 280-hour in-person EMT Class consisting of lectures, textbook reading, hands-on learning, and ride time
• Topics: Airway management, cardiac emergencies, pharmacology, pediatrics, trauma, obstetrics, and more
• Schedule: 16-18 weeks, 2 weekdays per week, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
• Locations: Elmhurst, Aurora, Schaumburg, and Green Oaks, IL
• Goal: Prepare students to pass the National Registry Exam and obtain their state EMT license while beginning their EMS career at Superior
• Post-Class Employment: Upon successful completion, students will have the opportunity to be hired as full-time Superior employees
• Cost: No cost for selected students unless they are unable to complete the class and 15 months of full-time employment afterward. If unable to fulfill these requirements, the student will be billed for the cost of the class

Responsibilities

• Attendance: Mandatory completion of all class sessions and scheduled ride time shifts; students must arrange their own reliable transportation
• Time Commitment: 16 hours per week in class, with an additional 10-15 hours outside of class for studying, homework, and ride time. Students must ensure full commitment to attendance and program requirements
• Technology: Homework assignments are completed online; students must provide their own technology

Requirements

• Driver's License: Valid unrestricted driver's license with 1 year of driving experience, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to safely operate a vehicle in various conditions (daytime, nighttime, and inclement weather)
• Age: 18 years or older
• Education: High School diploma or GED
• Post-Class Employment: Ability to work for Superior Ambulance Service for a continuous 15 months on a full-time templated schedule after class completion
