About the role

Provides in-home intervention to children and their families utilizing a skill-based, solution-focused model to help families adopt positive solutions to problems through the teaching of skills and behavioral techniques, accessing community resources and support.

Responsibilities

  • Provides safe and effective services by adhering to policies related to safety and boundaries with service recipients, attending safety and abuse risk management training, and following procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising service recipients.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors, policy violations, and follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with families and community service resources, including medical professionals, public welfare personnel, lawyers, therapists, law enforcement, school officials, and community organizations.
  • Provides screening and assessment to determine program eligibility and identifies areas to address in the service plan.
  • Trains and supports families in developing and utilizing functional skills, assesses problems, and monitors progress toward predetermined goals, providing regular review and updates of service plans.
  • May provide outreach and prevention services, including increasing community awareness and offering informational and educational programs.
  • Maintains appropriate level of direct contact with families per program requirements and remains available 24/7 for crisis intervention.
  • Provides training in the management of difficult behaviors to consumers, including school personnel.
  • Promotes family self-determination by assisting families in identifying and accessing community services and resources.
  • Educates families on physical health needs, preventive healthcare, and assists in leveraging spiritual or religious beliefs as a source of strength.
  • Meets with families and children at various locations; uses own vehicle for travel and authorized transport of youth.
  • Prepares and submits reports on caseload status, budget requests, service plan changes, and unusual incidents.
  • Reports critical incidents involving family members or staff according to standard guidelines.
  • Ensures timely and proper documentation of service plans and compliance with contractual, regulatory, and accrediting standards.
  • Implements feedback from supervisors and notifies them of changes in professional status that may affect job compliance.
  • May be trained as a certified Common Sense Parenting Instructor and conduct CSP courses as assigned.
  • Serves as a role model in carrying out activities and behaviors reflecting Boys Town’s mission and values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field and 1 year of experience working with children and families required. In rural counties in Nebraska and Iowa, an Associate degree and 2 years of experience may be considered. Additional education or experience may be required in Louisiana due to state or contractual requirements.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record; pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check.
  • Ability to provide own transportation (mileage reimbursed) and meet auto insurance requirements established by Boys Town policy and/or State and Local laws.
  • Available rotationally to provide crisis response and work non-traditional business hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Based on business need, some areas may require bilingual skills.
  • May be trained as a State Approved Family Team Decision Meeting and/or Youth Transition Decision Making Facilitator.
  • Certification or licensure may be required based on location, local contracts, or Federal/State requirements.
  • Central Florida: CPR certification obtained during pre-service training per contract requirements.

Skills

  • Solid understanding of public assistance and social services systems.
  • Knowledge of interventions such as risk assessment and crisis intervention.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to youth care and ability to learn, apply, and explain complex regulations and policies.
  • Ability to function independently, demonstrate flexibility, personal integrity, and work effectively with youth, staff, and support agencies.
  • Knowledge of community resources and service providers in the geographical area.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and maintain confidentiality with individuals at all levels.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Boys Town model and fidelity of care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and families in community-based programs or Boys Town Programs.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Must maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during stressful situations without compromising health or well-being.
  • Duties performed in various environments, ranging from highly stressful to casual, both indoors and outdoors.
  • May be exposed to outside weather conditions and substandard living conditions, including domestic pets.
