IFR Relief Rotor Wing Pilot - Full Time

Summary

Sanford Health’s Relief Rotor Wing Pilot provides pilot coverage at all Sanford Air Transport rotor‑wing bases—including Bemidji, MN; Fargo, ND; Bismarck, ND; and Sioux Falls, SD. The pilot flies rotor‑wing missions requested by Sanford, complies with all applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, and represents the institution positively with FAA officials, physicians, patients, employees, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Operate rotor‑wing aircraft safely and efficiently from initial dispatch through flight termination.
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of the company Operations Manual, FAA regulations, Operations Specifications, Aircraft Flight Manual, and any other flight‑specific requirements.
• Demonstrate interdisciplinary teamwork and effective critical‑thinking skills to respond to changing environments.
• Maintain a weight of 240 lb or less when fully dressed in uniform.
• Work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on‑call as required; share on‑call and vacation coverage with other pilots.
• Provide relief coverage at all Sanford Air Transport rotor‑wing bases, with schedules varying month‑to‑month.
• Ensure compliance with all FAR Part 119 and Part 135 requirements.

Qualifications

• Commercial Certificate (FAA) for rotorcraft‑helicopter with an Instrument rating; Airline Transport Pilot rating preferred.
• Current second‑class medical certificate; current commercial and instrument flying privileges.
• Successful completion of an approved training program and FAA Part 135 check‑ride before serving as Pilot‑in‑Command on patient missions.
• Minimum of 2,000 helicopter flight hours, meeting CAMTS flight‑experience requirements.
• Current Commercial Rotorcraft‑Helicopter Certificate with Instrument Rating.
• Must reside in one of the major base markets (Bemidji, MN; Fargo, ND; Bismarck, ND; or Sioux Falls, SD).

Schedule

Rotating shift schedule with weekly hours of 40. Schedule varies month‑to‑month and may include weekends, holidays, and on‑call duties.

Pay

Salary range: $40.00 – $66.00 per hour. Additional pay incentive specific to the relief role.
