Role & Responsibilities
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and technology to teach required material to students.
- Plan instruction to meet individual and group needs.
- Responsible for following the SOL teaching guidelines in all SOL classes.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records for students.
- Provide healthy and appropriate role modeling, being careful to avoid continually singling out a student.
- Work closely with the School Principal along with other YFT staff to ensure the Education program remains successful.
- Keep fellow Teachers, House Parents, Therapists, and Case Managers informed of student’s progress and specific areas of concentration for each student.
- Assist in monitoring and supervising of lunch period(s) during an academic day as requested.
- Assist with direct supervision of student(s) at all times during the school day.
- Present pertinent information (positive and/or negative) as required for the weekly Evaluation Team Meeting.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis on secondary education.
- Certification by the Virginia State Department of Education.
- Possess knowledge in the field of instruction.
- Possess skills and abilities to positively interact with students, maintain discipline, and promote a positive learning environment.
- Ability to maintain all required documentation.
- Effectively challenge, nurture and develop the educational abilities of at-risk youth in a residential setting.
