About The Role

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in supporting the developmental needs, preferences, and choices of the people they work with. They assist in achieving the goals outlined in the person's Staff Action and Life Plan, escort people to community activities, operate agency vehicles, assist with meal preparation, ensure safety and supervision, and maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment.

• Safely administer medication under the guidance of an RN (if applicable)
• Ensure compliance with OPWDD, NYSJC, and organizational policies
• Document all activities and maintain accurate records
• Communicate effectively with people supported and their families
• Report any concerns related to health or safety to the appropriate administrator

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED
• A valid state driver’s license (NYS preferred)
• Ability to work independently and self-direct
• Knowledge of technology for completing billing data and other tasks
• Positive attitude towards working with people who have disabilities
• Flexibility to meet the needs of the people they support
• Availability to work full-time with occasional flexibility
• Prior experience with OPWDD or supporting people with disabilities is a plus
