About the role

The Idaho Area Mining Lead will focus on mining project and client management for projects and pursuits with key clients in Idaho. This individual will identify and develop project opportunities, serve as a pursuit champion, and act as a resource for HDR mining pursuits and resources opportunities. Duties include planning, directing, and monitoring all aspects of large multi-discipline projects or medium-sized projects with high technical complexity, including field programs. Technical and project management support on other area resources projects, dependent on candidate experience and capabilities, will supplement the role during times when the mining market contracts.

Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Serve as the Client Manager for selected key clients of both Greenfield and Brownfield mines within the area, and be active and visible in the industry.
  • Promote all HDR services to clients with the Resources Business Group (RBG) Manager, Mining Practice Lead, and Mining BD Lead.
  • Work with RBG Manager on development and delivery of area and department market sector initiatives.
  • Lead and/or support selected pursuits through client relationship development and/or through development of strategy and participation in pursuit activities.
  • Participate in industry associations and serve as a company role-model in business and community organizations, including giving related presentations and participating in panel discussions.
  • Identify key investments (skills, acquisitions, and technology) that will maintain or drive HDR into a mining industry leadership position.
  • Develop relationships with mining counterparts in other consulting organizations.
  • Develop relationships with senior leadership in key client organizations both on-site and corporately.

Staff Development

  • Seek opportunities to enhance practices to best perform within the marketplace to win new work and provide opportunities for staff growth and development.
  • Lead and/or assist with the identification and recruitment of prospective future mining practice employees.
  • Assume responsibility for coordination support between departments.
  • Work with the Resources business class directors and Mining Practice to drive technical excellence and coordinate technical staff to support program and marketing efforts.
  • Lead the Area in identifying needs and opportunities for new and improved technical services and products to maximize the depth, effectiveness, and efficiency of the practice.
  • Work with the Mining Practice Lead, Mining BD Lead, and Area Manager to coordinate staffing/recruiting plans for key hires.
  • Assist local leadership as necessary with local hire on-boarding.
  • Identify resource gaps and support talent management and recruiting.

Support to Area

  • Assist the Area Manager and RBG Lead to deliver services within the Industrial sector.
  • Help drive client management, monitor and take action regarding Industrial sector profit and loss, ensure project delivery, and support the QA/QC program.
  • Facilitate cooperation and eliminate hurdles and barriers to success.
  • Work with Area business group leadership and Mining Practice Lead to implement process improvements and leverage work sharing to meet or exceed planned goals.
  • Be aware of staff workload and facilitate work sharing within the Industrial sector; promote effective use of company resources and assist in applying key staff/expertise to projects.
  • Assist with contract review on key projects to help ensure risk management, proper staffing, quality reviews, and resolution of claims.
  • Promote Quality Assurance/Quality Control; work with business class and regional leadership to assist local programs with key technical expertise to support marketing and project activities.
  • Facilitate development and dissemination of “lessons learned” within Area and Mining Practice.
  • Take on Project Management and technical assignments based on technical skills and need.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience
  • Professional registration, license, or certification may be required based on role
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture is a must
