Job Summary

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a Nursing Supervisor to provide leadership and oversight to the ICU/CSU Units.

Key Responsibilities

  • If unable to attend, provides/submit information as required to meet requirement and prepares a predetermined designee to present.
  • Schedules and utilizes resources at the right time and place within the care continuum to maximize nursing staff productivity, meet budgetary targets and enhance the quality of care delivery.
  • Ensures that the critical needs of the patients are met by effectively managing human resources and optimizing the number and type of skilled, qualified workers available for scheduling and daily staffing.
  • Hires the best available candidate – either internal or external.
  • Is not afraid to select strong candidates.
  • Assembles talented mix of skills and abilities.
  • Completes 30, 60. 90 & 120-day touch downs.
  • Aligns appropriate mentors and preceptors for new hires.
  • Utilizes People Answers to hire the “right” candidate(s).
  • Provides challenge and stretch in project and task assignments.
  • Maintains an awareness of employees’ personal career goals.
  • Encourages direct reports to accept greater responsibility; provides necessary support and authority.
  • Collects sufficient information to make timely and effective decisions.
  • Does not succumb to “analysis paralysis”.
  • Consults with appropriate subordinates, peers and senior managers before making decisions.
  • Does not procrastinate when making difficult decisions.
  • Determines qualifications and competence of staff by: assessing interactions, shadowing, rounding, auditing documentation, and completing competencies annually.
  • Investigates, evaluates, and responds to all complaints and takes measures to correct problems through to resolution.
  • Closes the loop timely with all parties when following up on complaints.
  • Responsible for follow up on Employee Engagement surveys to delineate areas of focus, champion successes, and celebrate positive outcomes.
  • Makes unpopular decisions when necessary.
  • Keeps up with industry events, trends and related information that may affect business unit.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by Unit Nursing Director and/or the CNO.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience of acute care clinical skills.
  • Current professional nurse license issued and/or recognized by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Ability to communicate in English; both verbally and in writing.
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and Outlook.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills required.
  • Current regulatory knowledge (CMS and Joint Commission) and current evidence based practice knowledge.
  • Strong experience with service excellence culture.
