Ice Rink Attendant - Crown Center Ice Terrace (Part-time Seasonal)

About the role

The Ice Rink Attendant monitors and assists customers, ensures that customers skate in a safe manner according to the posted rules, and serves as the first point of contact in case of injury. The incumbent monitors the surface of the ice, fills in holes, reports problem areas to the Zamboni drivers to ensure a quality skating experience for the customer. The Ice Rink Attendant interacts with and welcomes customers to the Pro Shop, issues skates, and advises of proper fit and lacing techniques. The Ice Rink Attendant operates a cash register at the main entrance of the Pro Shop and / or in the concessions area. The incumbent must be knowledgeable of proper food handling techniques and health department regulations for the concessions area. The Ice Rink attendant restocks the concession area, shovels snow and ice around the rink, removes trash and cleans tables.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and assist customers, ensuring they skate safely according to posted rules
• Serve as first point of contact in case of injury
• Monitor the surface of the ice, fill in holes, and report problem areas to Zamboni drivers
• Interact with and welcome customers to the Pro Shop, issue skates, and advise on proper fit and lacing techniques
• Operate a cash register at the main entrance of the Pro Shop and/or in the concessions area
• Follow proper food handling techniques and health department regulations for the concessions area
• Restock the concession area, shovel snow and ice around the rink, remove trash, and clean tables

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent OR must be at least 16 years of age and currently in school and working towards a High School Diploma or GED or equivalent
• Must be able to work weekends (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays)
• Must be available to work Saturday evenings, 5:00pm – 11:00pm
• Must be flexible and available to work day or evening shifts; schedules will vary between the hours of 9:00 am to midnight through the week and on the weekend
• Ability to ice skate or willing to learn how to ice skate
• Must be able to work in varied temperatures (hot and cold); work around moving machinery; work in a busy, crowded, noisy environment
• Ability to continuously stand, walk, bend; frequently lift up to 20 pounds

• Customer Service experience or working with the public
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Must display a high level of maturity and the ability to handle a variety of situations when working with the public

Schedule

The Crown Center Ice Terrace is open to the public 7 days a week. November thru January: Sunday - Thursday 10:00am - 9:00pm, Friday & Saturday 10:00am - 11:00pm. February & March: Monday - Thursday 11:00am - 9:00pm, Friday 11:00am - 10:00pm, Saturday 10:00am - 10:00pm, Sunday 10:00am - 9:00pm. There are a couple of openings Monday - Friday, 10:00am - 5:00pm.

Pay

Starting pay is $15 an hour.

Additional details

The position is located at the Crown Center Ice Terrace in Kansas City, Missouri. Relocation will not be provided.
