About the role

As an ICU nurse within the Pre- and Postoperative Care cluster, you are responsible for the care of patients in various units of the Operating Room Center, including the Holding, PACU, and Pediatric and Adult Recovery. You will be deployable across all units, with a focus on the PACU due to the intensive postoperative care provided there. You will work in a dynamic environment with diverse and complex patient categories. Your role is crucial, as patients' conditions can change rapidly after surgery, requiring quick and adequate responses.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and care for patients in the Holding, PACU, and Recovery units, ensuring their stability and well-being.
• Assist anesthesiologists with medical procedures, such as regional anesthesia, to ensure optimal care.
• Prepare patients in the Holding for surgery, including performing preoperative checks.
• Monitor vital functions and respond promptly to acute changes in patients' conditions.
• Transfer patients to the Intensive Care unit or an appropriate nursing ward.

About the workplace

The LUMC holds top clinical and top-referral status, enabling specialized medical procedures in our modern Operating Room Center. Examples include organ transplants, which are only possible in hospitals with special permits. The OR Center consists of four clusters, one of which is the Pre- and Postoperative Care cluster. This cluster is divided into four units:

• PACU (three beds for intensive postoperative care),
• Holding (seven beds for preoperative procedures),
• Pediatric Recovery (four beds for postoperative care of children up to 16 years),
• Adult Recovery (twelve beds for postoperative care).

Requirements

• Completed postgraduate training as an ICU nurse, including the relevant diploma.
• Experience in recovery, PACU, or ICU.
• Knowledge of various complex patient categories.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.

Pay

As a motivated ICU nurse, your salary ranges from a minimum of €4,185 to a maximum of €5,499 gross per month (scale 9aM, CAO UMC), based on a full-time position. A salary increase of 3.5% will apply from May 1, 2027.
