IC&E Technician
ContourGlobal, a KKR company, is an established Independent Power Producer (IPP) focused on developing, acquiring, and operating electricity generation and storage assets across Europe, North and South America, with a presence in Africa and Asia. The company manages 6 GW of installed capacity across multiple technologies and asset classes, with an additional 1.3 MW of renewables under construction and nearly 12 GW under development. ContourGlobal is accelerating the decarbonization of its portfolio and evolving into a predominantly renewable IPP, supported by long-term contracts and innovative PPAs coupled with energy management solutions.
About the role
As an Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Technician, you will join our Plant Operations team. You will report to the Plant Manager and play a critical role in maintaining the reliability, safety, and performance of our power generation assets. You will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and calibration of instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment across the plant and associated facilities. Working closely with operations and maintenance teams, you will help ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Have a strong working knowledge of the ContourGlobal Health & Safety Management System and its respective safe work practices, including Permit to Work, Management of Change, and Contractor Safety.
- Coach and mentor facility employees on proper safety behaviors, use of the ContourGlobal Management System, and participation in Health & Safety activities such as inspections, incident investigations, and visible felt leadership.
- Verify job tasks are adequately reviewed prior to initiating work and when changes occur in the work environment or task requirements.
- Ensure all incidents and potential adverse events (e.g., Near Misses) are quickly communicated to Plant leadership and Health & Safety site/regional support.
- Perform preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems, as well as emergency backup systems.
- Maintain complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
- Assist in maintaining and controlling spare-parts inventory to ensure Plant reliability and participate in physical inventories.
- Participate in the administrative maintenance of Plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
- Work shifts as required to support the operation of the Plant.
- Inspect, repair, install, and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries; work with electrical systems up to and including 4,160 volts.
- Conduct troubleshooting and analysis on Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and turbine-control equipment.
- Maintain all Plant instrumentation and electrical test equipment.
- Fully support and participate in CG Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs.
- Complete other tasks as assigned by the Maintenance/Plant Manager.
- Strive for excellence and look for opportunities to improve work efficiency and quality.
- Analyze issues, identify root causes of near misses/failures, and take actions to eliminate them in the future.
- Effectively use CG practices/methodology for continuous improvement.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program preferred.
- Experience as an Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Technician or in a similar technical role within power generation, industrial manufacturing, or a related industry.
- Experience working with SAP or other Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems used in modern power generation facilities, including combustion controls, boiler controls, turbine controls, and machine condition monitoring systems.
- Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, including switchgear, motors, transformers, batteries, chargers, inverters, generators, and excitation equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and operating procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, determine root causes, and implement practical solutions.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following established safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a power plant environment.
- Hands-on experience with high-voltage electrical systems, including 13.8kV, 4,160V, and 480V equipment.
- Experience supporting preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Ability to work varied shifts, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required to support plant operations.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Experience working safely around industrial equipment and hazardous materials while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Pay
The expected salary range for this position is $35 – $45 per hour, determined based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
