OTHRFull-time

About the role

iC.A.R.E. Mentoring, a program of Red Oak Behavioral Health, matches caring adults to mentor one student, once a week, for one school year. Volunteers work with K-12 students in the Akron, Barberton, Cuyahoga Falls, and Tallmadge public schools.

We support our volunteers with training, supplies, and a fun & interactive workbook that covers important skills such as goal setting, resilience, and self-confidence.

Why mentor?

Youth of all ages benefit from having a relationship with a caring and consistent adult role model. Students with a mentor are:

  • 55% more likely to be enrolled in college than those who did not have a mentor
  • 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school
  • 46% less likely than their peers to start using illegal drugs and 27% less likely to start drinking
