I/E Technician

About the Role

The I&E Technician performs corrective and preventative maintenance on instrumentation and electrical (I&E) systems, including analytical equipment, control elements, advanced hardware (computers, telemetry), logic networks, and related equipment used in the processing, fractionation, storage, and transportation of natural gas liquids.

Responsibilities

• Learn and adhere to Targa’s Safety Policies and Procedures and Business Ethics Policies.
• Plan and execute assignments safely using proper tools, safety precautions, permitting, Process Safety Management, and environmental considerations.
• Apply knowledge of Allen-Bradley programmable logic controllers (PLC), including:
  • IEC-63111-3 programming languages (ladder logic).
  • Downloading/uploading programs, online edits, and logic troubleshooting.
• Create HMI graphics for local HMI and SCADA systems.
• Evaluate, troubleshoot, and correct control system wiring for transmitters, switch devices, and PLC outputs.
• Familiarize with Wonderware ArchestrA SCADA system, including setup and configuration of derived instances for new systems.
• Interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), control panel and junction box diagrams, process flow diagrams, and electrical one-lines.
• Configure and troubleshoot instrumentation, including:
  • Pressure, temperature, and level instruments.
  • Coriolis flow meters.
  • Variable speed drives (VFD).
• Troubleshoot and correct issues with positive displacement flow meters, including pulse contacts and optical high-speed pulse devices.
• Perform I/O wiring, configuration, and communications for flow computers and remote terminal units (RTU).
• Demonstrate expertise in EtherNet/IP and serial radio installation and configuration.
• Apply knowledge of electrical theory and controls for low-voltage systems (120 VAC and below).
• Understand NEC and API code regulations for area classification and electrical components in classified areas.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills for collaboration with teams, personnel, and vendors.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and respond to call-outs as needed.
• Ability to work shifts for plant or field conditions.
• Capability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Ability to work in changing climate conditions and confined spaces (kneeling, squatting, climbing, etc.).
• Compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (e.g., eye protection, footwear, Nomex).
• Regular and reliable attendance.
• Must live or be willing to relocate within 60 miles of the job location.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC Logix 5000 and 500 product lines.
• Experience with Allen-Bradley Panelview Plus HMI product line.
• Experience with Freewave radios and Sierra Wireless cell modem devices.
• Experience with Emerson Rosemount pressure, temperature, and level devices.
• Experience with Micromotion Coriolis meters.
• Experience with Eaton 9000 series VFD’s.

Physical Demands

• Frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting of at least 50 lbs to a height of 3–4 feet.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying climate conditions.
• Capability to work in close quarters (kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, standing).
• Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and platforms at varying heights.
• Adherence to PPE guidelines (e.g., eye protection, footwear, Nomex).
