About the Role

This position supports the Bayport Polymers Plant in Pasadena, TX. Working in a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional environment, it carries responsibility for implementing and continuously improving the asset maintenance strategy. The role interacts with other technical groups on site (e.g., Process Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Capital Projects), LyondellBasell Technical Networks, suppliers, and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) as needed to improve asset availability and life cycle cost performance.

Responsibilities

  • Systematically develop, monitor, and continuously improve an IEA (Instrument, Electrical, and Analyzer) asset maintenance strategy to ensure assets function as required and realize value throughout their life cycles.
  • Manage various maintenance task types, including:
    • Predictive Maintenance (PdM) (e.g., AMS, PdMA)
    • Preventive Maintenance (PM) (e.g., instrument calibration, control valve overhauls)
    • Failure-finding (e.g., proof-testing of safety-instrumented systems)
    • Corrective Maintenance (e.g., replacement work instructions, repair plans)
  • Ensure spare parts are held in sufficient quantity to manage asset unavailability risk.
  • Lead or participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses (RCA).
  • Leverage learning from experience to continuously improve the asset maintenance strategy and LyondellBasell’s broader asset management systems.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary asset performance improvement teams.
  • Apply data analysis techniques to develop engineering solutions for repetitive failures and other problems affecting process safety, personnel safety, environmental, regulatory, operational, and quality performance.
  • Apply value analysis (e.g., life cycle cost analysis) to repair/replace, repair/redesign, and make/buy decisions.
  • Provide technical support/expertise within your discipline during the front-end engineering and design (FEED) and execution phases of capital projects to ensure newly installed and modified assets realize value throughout their life cycle.
  • Collaborate with peers at the site and across LyondellBasell.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Electrical or Nuclear Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant, proven experience in maintaining and improving IEA asset performance in the refining, petrochemical, chemical process, power generation, or nuclear industries.
  • Strong interpersonal leadership skills for effective communication of complex issues, mentoring, and consensus-building.
  • Understanding of business drivers, management of change requirements, reliability processes, and maintenance workflow.
  • Proven, basic proficiency in the following areas:
    • Industry codes and standards (e.g., IEEE, ISA, NFPA, NEC, NETA)
    • Instrumentation and measurement technology
    • PLC programming and maintenance
    • Analyzers and sample systems
    • Low and medium voltage power distribution and control systems
    • Instrumentation diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair
    • Component failure analysis
    • Reliability engineering concepts
    • Reliability data analysis techniques
    • Project management process (PMP)
    • Application of computer software (SAP, AMS, CONVAL, ExSILentia, Power BI)
  • Strong commitment to safety, high personal integrity, and dedication to conducting business ethically.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with IEC 61511.
  • Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE) or TUV Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) certification.
  • Independent protection layer (IPL) validation experience.
