Key Responsibilities
- Develop and review system- and component-level specifications, technical requirements, and scopes of work.
- Perform engineering evaluations and apply applicable industry codes, standards, licensing requirements, and regulatory criteria to I&C system designs.
- Specify instrumentation measurement techniques, including evaluation of measurement range, response time, and accuracy for complex industrial applications.
- Analyze and apply regulatory requirements to instrumentation and control system design.
- Create and maintain engineering drawing packages, including Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), control system architecture drawings, control logic diagrams, loop diagrams, and instrument installation drawings.
- Develop integrated design packages for major plant systems and components.
- Provide technical oversight of supplier engineering activities, ensuring deliverables meet project quality, schedule, and technical requirements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate I&C systems with mechanical, electrical, process, and safety systems.
- Support licensing activities and engineering documentation associated with safety analyses.
- Assist with engineering planning, scheduling, and design execution for assigned systems.
- Evaluate engineering design changes and assess impacts on interfacing systems while supporting formal change control processes.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship on I&C design standards and engineering best practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by incorporating industry best practices into engineering processes and designs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 10+ years of experience designing industrial instrumentation and control systems.
- Advanced degrees may be considered toward experience requirements.
- Demonstrated experience developing, integrating, troubleshooting, and implementing industrial I&C systems.
- Experience designing complete instrumentation and control platforms from concept through implementation.
- Strong understanding of industrial process instrumentation, control systems, diagnostics, and data acquisition.
- Experience developing engineering documentation and design packages.
- Ability to interpret and apply engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering efforts and supplier deliverables.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and resolve complex technical challenges.
- Self-motivated with the ability to lead technical efforts with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering excellence.
Nice to Have
- Experience designing instrumentation and control systems for nuclear facilities or other highly regulated industries.
- Familiarity with IEEE and IEC instrumentation and control standards.
- Knowledge of nuclear quality assurance requirements, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B and ASME NQA-1.
- Experience supporting high-temperature industrial processes (400°C or greater).
- Experience developing or interpreting Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Experience using CAD software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or SolidWorks.
- Experience with formal I&C startup testing procedures and system commissioning.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex industrial projects.
