Skanska AS Norway is undertaking a comprehensive renovation of the structural parts of a 4000 square meter pier in the Oslo harbor. This is a dangerous and seemingly impossible operation due to tidal currents and the inaccessible work area under the water surface. However, not with the help of Aquajet Systems.
The Challenge
The large project at Pipervika-Kai in Oslo, Norway, is being handled by Skanska AS. Under the main pier, Skanska AS discovered severe damage to the supporting parts. This is already a bad news. Moreover, most parts are inaccessible for large demolition robots. Additionally, the pier itself poses a risky environment for Skanska workers, as the tides and underground concrete can be eroded. Something extraordinary had to be done to avoid hazardous, time-consuming, and hard manual labor.
The Solution
To tackle this challenge, Skanska chose the Aqua Cutter 410A in combination with an adjustable power management module (PCM) and a Power Pack ECOSILENCE from Aquajet Systems. With electricity, swimming became safer. In the past, everything was done manually, which meant that such a project would have been impossible. Previously, Skanska AS used unpredictable rail systems and old, inefficient pumps from the 80s. These times are long gone thanks to Aquajet Systems.
- The operators can detach the crane from the PCM and drive the robot safely into the narrow and flooded areas under the pier.
- The operator controls the robot via a remote control from a safe distance, without wet feet.
Power Pack ECOSILENCE
The Aqua Cutter 410A is equipped with the Power Pack ECOSILENCE, a super-quiet high-pressure unit specially developed for hydrodemolition in urban environments with strictly regulated noise levels. In this case, pressure and flow were set to 1000 bar and 180 l/min respectively. The result? Significant efficiency improvement for Skanska AS. According to Skanska AS in Norway, they have increased efficiency by almost 50% and removed 750 tons of concrete with less effort than before - all thanks to Aquajet Systems.
