About the Role

Jones & Henry has an opening for a full time Hydraulic Modeler, with a focus on stormwater, wastewater and floodplain modeling, to join our team. This role will involve creating and optimizing hydraulic models, analyzing data and developing solutions to improve water and wastewater infrastructure. Our ideal candidate has a strong understanding of hydraulic principles, data analysis and the ability to use hydraulic modeling software effectively. The primary goal is to create accurate hydraulic models that aid in the planning, designing and execution of infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop hydrologic and hydraulic models for watersheds, streams, rivers, storm sewer systems, sanitary sewer systems, culverts, detention facilities, floodplains, and other water resources infrastructure
  • Perform rainfall-runoff, open-channel flow, closed-conduit flow, floodplain, inundation, culvert, detention, and stormwater management analyses
  • Build, run, calibrate, and validate models using industry-standard software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, EPA SWMM, InfoWorks, ICM, SewerGEMS, TR-55, TR-20, GIS-based tools, and related modeling platforms
  • Prepare drainage studies, floodplain analyses, stormwater reports, technical memoranda, design calculations, maps, exhibits, and permit-support documentation
  • Evaluate existing conditions, proposed improvements, flood risks, and design alternatives to support infrastructure planning and engineering design
  • Communicate modeling assumptions, results, limitations, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Maintain quality control of model inputs, outputs, calculations, documentation, and deliverables
  • Interpret results and provide insights to guide decision-making
  • Coordinate with engineers, planners, surveyors, environmental staff, clients, agencies, and regulatory reviewers
  • Review survey, LiDAR, GIS, rainfall, stream gage, land use, soil, infrastructure, and record drawing data for use in model development
  • Support FEMA, state, and local floodplain studies, map revisions, no-rise analyses, and permitting efforts as needed
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in hydraulic modeling and related fields
  • Conduct field investigations as needed to collect data for model inputs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain
  • Experience developing or reviewing hydrologic and hydraulic models for public infrastructure, land development, transportation, floodplain, watershed, or stormwater projects
  • Working knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, watershed processes, stormwater management, open-channel flow, culverts, bridges, detention systems, and floodplain principles
  • Proficiency with modeling tools such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, EPA SWMM, InfoWorks, ICM, SewerGEMS, TR-55, TR-20 or comparable software
  • Experience using GIS tools to process terrain, land cover, soils, drainage areas, floodplain, and infrastructure data
  • Working knowledge of GIS tools
  • Solid understanding of hydraulic principles and water/wastewater system
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear technical reports, calculations, exhibits, and engineering documentation

Benefits

  • Flexible work schedules to allow employees to have a healthy balance of work and home life
  • Competitive salaries and benefits including profit sharing
  • 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Paid time off
  • Medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance
