Hybrid Psychologist

About the role

The psychologist performs Medical Disability Examinations (MDE) for veterans filing disability claims for mental health conditions (e.g., PTSD, Depression, Anxiety) through the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) as part of the Compensation and Pension Program. These comprehensive mental health exams include assessments and medical opinions but do not involve treatment.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive mental health examinations (MDE) for conditions such as PTSD, Depression, Military Sexual Trauma (MST), anxiety, and eating disorders.
• Write medical opinions as the subject matter expert for mental health claims.
• Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and VA rules and procedures.
• Conduct standard outpatient assessments and evaluations, including psychological and neuropsychological testing service requests.
• Participate in peer consultations, staff meetings, and trainings.
• Enter determinations within Department of Veterans Affairs guideline requirements.
• Perform non-MD clinical reviews, such as requests for psychological or neuropsychological testing.
• Complete other duties as required by the reviewer’s manager.

Requirements

• Licensed doctoral-level (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) Psychologist.
• Current, unrestricted license allowing for full independent practice (additional state licenses may be required).
• 2+ years of post-licensure experience.
• Proficiency in computer skills, including Windows OS, Outlook, Word, Teams, and Excel.
• Designated secure workspace with access to install secure high-speed internet via cable/DSL at home.
• Graduation from an APA-approved school or doctorate program.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience performing C&P exams (training and ongoing support provided).
• Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP).
• ASPPB Certificate of Professional Qualification (CPQ).
• Experience working in a managed care setting.
• Experience performing peer reviews.
• Experience with Commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare lines of business.
• Familiarity with CPT and HCPC codes.
• Clinical experience in higher levels of care (Intensive Outpatient).
• Clinical experience with children, adolescents, substance abuse diagnoses, and evidence-based treatment.
• Advanced computer skills using Excel and Access Databases.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple demands within strict turnaround-time requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a clinical team.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment.

Pay

Base salary plus monthly incentive plan: $151,694 - $163,694.
