About the role

The HVAC/Ventilation Design Engineer is responsible for design changes affecting heating, ventilation, air handling, confinement airflow, exhaust systems, and filtration systems that support safe and reliable facility operation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ventilation calculations, equipment sizing, airflow analyses, ductwork modifications, and system design documentation.
  • Support design changes to air handling systems, fan systems, filtration systems, and pressure-control features.
  • Evaluate room and system changes for impacts to habitability, ventilation effectiveness, and confinement intent.
  • Coincide with radiological, structural, mechanical, and fire protection disciplines.
  • Support field verification, balancing, testing, and turnover activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in HVAC or industrial ventilation design.
  • Knowledge of airflow and ventilation system fundamentals.
  • Experience with confinement ventilation, HEPA filtration, or once-through industrial ventilation systems (preferred).
  • Familiarity with ventilation requirements in hazardous or regulated facilities (preferred).

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Proficiency in HVAC design software.
