About the role
Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, seeks a skilled HVAC technician to join its team. This role involves designing, configuring, and servicing technically complex building control systems, ensuring proper operations and providing detailed information to customers.
Responsibilities
- Designs, configures, and services HVAC building control systems and other low voltage control sub-systems (e.g., lighting, nurse call, data networks).
- Develops and tests software programs necessary to operate the system according to customer facility requirements.
- Creates flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts, schedules, and electrical schematics as required.
- Coordinates and creates necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals, services, and installations.
- Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned jobs.
- Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required.
- Assists in validating complete system functionality and solving problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
- Provides field change information to the team for the creation of as-built drawings and software.
- Keeps management and JCI contractor and customer informed of job progress and issues.
- Assists in performing site-specific training for owners/operators on the total building control system.
- Participates in coordination and release meetings with sales and service operations.
- Performs value engineering to provide cost-effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction.
- May provide work direction to Service Controls Technician I and Senior I and Senior II Controls Technicians.
- Adheres to safety standards and demonstrates high regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC industry.
- Demonstrated knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and other building subsystems.
- Demonstrated experience in integrating low voltage building sub-systems using various industry protocols (e.g., LON, BACnet, etc.).
- Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience.
- Demonstrated advanced computer skills, particularly in computer-related drafting tools.
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum of seven (7) years' experience in HVAC or related field.
- Bachelor's/associate's degree in engineering preferred.
