About the role

Austin Industrial provides premier self-perform maintenance, construction, and soft craft service to leading industrial companies across the U.S. As an HVAC Technician, you will install, diagnose, repair, and maintain heating, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment, including:

  • Air conditioning and refrigeration systems
  • Electric motors, heating units, and heat pumps
  • Hermetic and semi-hermetic compressors
  • Commercial furnaces, boilers, and burners
  • Intake and exhaust fans, economizers, and humidifiers
  • Capacity controls, split systems, and flame safeguard controls
  • Air compressors, air driers, and packaged units

Additional duties may include diagnosing, repairing, and installing plant mechanical systems in the pulp and paper manufacturing industry, as well as performing preventative maintenance on equipment like conveyors and presses.

Responsibilities

  • Read mechanical prints and diagrams, including HVAC systems
  • Perform predictive and preventative maintenance, identifying root causes of failure
  • Work collaboratively with maintenance and operations teams to troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Work independently, with a partner, or as part of a team while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity
  • Engage in facility-wide preventative maintenance processes
  • Cross-train and learn new skills in other technical areas to enhance capabilities
  • Use computer systems for maintenance processes, stores, and work orders
  • Operate power tools and heavy equipment
  • Work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed by the assigned location
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a postsecondary HVAC training program or formal apprenticeship is highly preferred
  • 3–5 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States (Austin Industrial cannot sponsor employment visas for this position)

Physical, Mental & Environmental Requirements

  • Must be clean-shaven for this position
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach
  • May require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work at elevations, on uneven surfaces, or in confined spaces
  • Sufficient visual, hearing, communication, and motor skills to safely perform job duties
  • Ability to work in industrial and construction environments with exposure to:
    • Weather conditions and temperature extremes
    • Noise, dust, fumes, and moving equipment
    • Vibration and other site-specific hazards
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and meet all customer, site, regulatory, medical, and fitness-for-duty requirements
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and productivity expectations
