The HVAC/R Technician performs skilled, complex work relating to the repair, maintenance and installation of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment/systems.

Who You Are

• High school diploma/GED and targeted job related education
• Universal EPA Refrigeration Certificate
• Minimum two years of experience in HVAC/R role in commercial setting

Principal Duties

• Coordinates with assigned supervisor and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently
• Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations
• Performs routine and preventive maintenance as needed for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functioning of HVAC/R systems
• Installs heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded capabilities
• Diagnoses cause of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning/refrigeration systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and/or replacement needs
• Inspects HVAC/R systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, boilers, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance
• Repairs heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and/or components (e.g. pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coils, piping, kitchen equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a comfortable living and working environment
• Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair
• Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information
• Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns
• Responds to work orders and assists with other facilities related projects as assigned and as staffing needs require
• Assists, during winter, with snow removal efforts
• Serves on security detail when assigned
• Follows established protocol for responding to and documenting community concerns
• Utilizes time in efficient manner, completing duties in timely fashion
• Participates in the orientation and development of new employees
• Maintains skills and competencies utilized in work areas
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Pay

$34 to $37 per hour, depending on experience

Schedule

Full-time (at least 32.5 hours per week) may require some work outside normal 9 to 5 hours

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 50 lbs. independently; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 60% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under temperature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment.
