HVAC Technician
Position Overview
The HVAC Technician will perform skilled mechanical maintenance duties in the inspection, repair, installation and alteration of District heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration systems and related equipment and facilities; perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing of equipment.
Typical Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of commercial HVAC, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and boiler systems to ensure safe and efficient operation of school facilities.
- Diagnose and repair HVAC equipment and components, including compressors, motors, pumps, thermostats, controls, valves, fans, filters, and building automation-related systems.
- Conduct routine testing, calibration, and maintenance of boilers, chillers, refrigeration systems, and associated equipment, including water treatment, combustion adjustments, and system performance monitoring.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, labor, materials, and preventive maintenance activities while ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards and district procedures.
- Aid with related building maintenance, including repair of water fountains, plumbing fixtures, and other mechanical systems, and respond to emergency maintenance requests as needed.
Minimum Requirements
- Prior experience and possession of an HVAC license D-2 or greater.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid Driver's License.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems, equipment, and controls.
- Ability to inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair HVAC systems using appropriate tools and testing equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and work instructions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including exposure to heat and cold.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Requirements
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole highly desirable.
- Two years of related experience.
