About the Role

This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining HVAC units at City facilities, as well as assisting with plumbing and electrical work. The role operates under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains City heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Performs regular preventative maintenance on various types of air-conditioning units.
  • Replaces belts, filters, motors, and other components.
  • Maintains job work order logs.
  • Estimates costs of repair projects in terms of labor and material.
  • Determines which maintenance tasks the City may perform and which tasks must be performed by outside contractors.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment in proper manner.
  • Develops and maintains an inventory log of all City HVAC units.
  • Maintains assigned City-owned tools and equipment.
  • Identifies issues related to operations and maintenance of HVAC systems and determines the most appropriate and cost-effective solutions.
  • Assists with plumbing and electrical repairs and/or replacements.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Requires an Associate's degree, vocational technical degree, or specialized training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
  • One year of HVAC experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
  • HVAC technician certification.
  • TDLR HVAC technician license.

Physical Demands

Performs medium work involving walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing, and raising objects. Requires exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Work Environment

Involves routine and frequent exposure to the following unavoidable hazards:

  • Bright/dim light, dusts, and pollen.
  • Extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions.
  • Extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife.
  • Vibration, fumes, and/or noxious odors.
  • Traffic, moving machinery.
  • Electrical shock, heights.

Schedule

May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies (man-made or natural) to meet the business needs of the City.

Safety Responsibilities

  • Comply with established policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Follow safety training and instructions provided by supervisors.
  • Properly wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment.
  • Immediately report any unsafe work practices, conditions, on-the-job injuries, or illnesses.
