About the role

M.C. Dean is seeking experienced HVAC technicians to join our team in Tysons, Virginia. Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial HVAC systems, including experience with boilers, chillers, AHUs, VAV systems, heat pumps, and CRAC units. This position offers a competitive salary range from $85,040 to $88,993 per year, along with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, a 401(k) retirement plan, military reserve pay offset, and paid maternity leave.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain air handling units, boilers, cooling towers, data center cooling systems, exhaust and filtration systems, heat exchangers, heat pumps, humidifiers, piping repairs, pumps, rooftop units, variable air volume systems, and variable frequency drives (VFD).
  • Oversee and perform AC unit installs, air-cooled chiller installations, boiler overhauls and replacements, commercial water heater installations, pump rebuilds and installations (water cooled and direct expansion).
  • Diagnose and repair complex HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, package units, AHUs, and VAV systems (direct digital, pneumatic, and automated controls).
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and system plans.
  • Provide proactive recommendations to clients based on customer relations skills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and 6+ years of commercial HVAC experience.
  • Commercial HVAC experience as a truck-based service technician.
  • Completion of an HVAC technical training program or recognized apprenticeship (preferred).
  • Journeyman License or ability to obtain one per program standards (within 1 year if not currently held).
  • Current CFC/EPA Universal Certification.
  • Holistic understanding of mechanical equipment and HVAC design in commercial and industrial environments.
  • Experience with Trane, Liebert, Stulz, and other major brands.
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance (applicants will undergo a government background investigation).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to comply with M.C. Dean vehicle policies.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC tools, machines, and their proper maintenance.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and test equipment to perform diagnostic and repair work.
  • Able to complete timely documentation including maintenance reports, service tickets, and daily safety briefings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Ability to work independently, resourcefully, and safely.

Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
  • The ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • The ability to walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and reach overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • The ability to see in color and hear and communicate in English.
  • The ability to use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • The ability to recognize when something is wrong or likely to go wrong.
  • The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions.
  • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Skills

  • Advanced troubleshooting skills down to the component level on boilers, chillers, AHUs, VAVs, heat pumps, and CRAC units.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and system plans.
  • Experience with Liebert HVAC systems.
  • Strong customer-relation skills.

Pay

The starting salary for this position ranges from $85,040 to $88,993 per year. Please note that these are estimated values and actual compensation may vary.
