Overview Of The Role

The HVAC Refrigeration Master Mechanic is responsible for providing advanced journeyman-level work in multiple trades, including HVAC, plumbing, machinist, and welding. Responsibilities include troubleshooting issues, implementing effective solutions, and ensuring efficient system functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair HVAC issues in various structures, including the Safe House, Administration Building, and warehouse HVAC equipment.
  • Lead inspections, maintenance, and repairs involving HVAC and refrigeration equipment when working with contractors or other trades personnel.
  • Install and replace HVAC and refrigeration equipment of all sizes.
  • Operate and regulate HVAC and refrigeration systems, including boilers, chillers, and hot water systems.
  • Conduct air balancing in HVAC distribution systems.
  • Assign and inspect the work of journeyman HVAC mechanics, mechanics assistants, and apprentices.
  • Perform periodic preventative maintenance on equipment, including motor amplification, refrigerant addition, control adjustment, filter change, thermostat calibration, and coil cleaning.

Job Duties and Other Information

Performs major and advanced repairs on all types of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Independently diagnoses HVAC problems, implements repairs, replacements, and maintenance on HVAC equipment in old facilities, including the Safe House, Administration Building, and structures within the warehouse containing HVAC equipment. Serves in a lead worker capacity when working with contractors or other trades personnel to accomplish inspections, maintenance, and repairs to HVAC equipment. Performs specialized electrical power installations, such as electric motor controls (EMC motors), variable frequency drives (VFDs), pneumatic controls, and sheet metal and plumbing installations relative to each job. Oversees the installation, repair, alteration, maintenance, and control of refrigeration, heating, ventilating, and cooling systems. Performs periodic preventative maintenance on equipment to provide required inspections, lubrication, and adjustments, including amping motors, adding refrigerant, adjusting controls, changing filters, calibrating thermostats, and cleaning coils.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of experience or training in the installation and/or maintenance of heating, ventilating, or air conditioning systems.
