HVAC/Refrigeration and Facilities Technician

About the role
The HVAC/Refrigeration and Facilities Technician will perform duties and tasks in the operations, maintenance and repair of HVAC and refrigeration, building equipment, systems, and infrastructure. Primary responsibilities include troubleshooting, operation, and maintenance of building electrical/HVAC equipment such as lighting installation and repairs, wiring of production equipment and systems, package HVAC units, refrigeration equipment handlers, and building environmental controls. The role also involves coordinating and performing repairs and preventive maintenance to facility and utility systems including Air Compressors, Steam Generators, Back-Up Generators, HVAC and Refrigeration Equipment, Security systems, Fire systems, and DI water systems.
The Facilities/Utilities Maintenance Team is a sub-team of the Maintenance Department. The technician will perform maintenance actions on assigned facility work orders, existing equipment work orders, and preventive maintenance tasks in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures. Responsibilities also include facility upkeep such as painting, sheetrock repairs, light bulb and ballast replacements, electrical and plumbing work, and grounds maintenance. Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills are required to support team objectives.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise in Electrical/HVAC/Refrigeration and utility systems.
- Diagnose and repair Electrical, HVAC, Refrigeration, and Mechanical equipment.
- Work with contractors to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repair of facility and utility equipment (e.g., Air Compressors, Steam Generators, Back-Up Generators, HVAC and Refrigeration Equipment, Security systems, Fire systems, and DI water systems).
- Complete daily work assignments from the Facilities Manager.
- Ensure the preventative maintenance program is performed according to procedures, schedules, and compliance regulations.
- Perform work in accordance with established maintenance departmental SOPs/PM Task Lists.
- Document maintenance actions in compliance with departmental standard operating procedures.
- Communicate with department managers, supervisors, and operators regarding Facility/Utilities maintenance actions.
- Ensure compliance with FDA, ISO, OSHA, and GMP regulations and standards.
- Follow Immucor and OSHA safety procedures.
- Handle and resolve housekeeping issues with the outsourced janitorial company.
- Troubleshoot utilities equipment and facility issues, making recommendations for improvement.
- Assist in maintaining accuracy of spare parts inventory for facility and utility equipment.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for DI water system issues and oversee the SCADA monitoring system.
- Train Utilities/Facility Maintenance Technicians on repair and preventive maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoot facility and utility systems problems to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
- Assist with revisions to standard operating procedures, forms, and work instructions as needed.
- Provide support to the project team for Facility/Utility projects within the facility.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and three years of related experience and/or training.
- EPA and HVAC Certification.
- Minimum of three years of hands-on HVAC/Refrigeration experience with strong troubleshooting and repair skills in commercial/industrial systems.
- Experience working in GMP environments.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends if needed to meet customer demands.
- Proven experience in the maintenance and repair of equipment such as Air Compressors, Steam Generators, Back-Up Generators, HVAC and Refrigeration Equipment, and DI water systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Strong background in troubleshooting various electrical, refrigeration, and HVAC systems.
- Proficient computer and technical systems skills.
