Job Summary
EMCOR Government Services has an immediate need for an HVAC Mechanic in McLean, Virginia. This position offers a unique combination of government experience and facilities expertise.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operates, monitors, troubleshoots, repairs and performs routine reoccurring preventive maintenance services to base building HVAC and other related mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Maintains site operations through the BMCS control system.
- Performs tests, calibration and operation as required.
- Performs troubleshooting and repairs of all HVAC equipment.
- Institutes corrective action and/or informs supervisor on any deficiencies found in the course of performing the job.
- Performs watch tours and inspections as may be required.
- Works on typical HVAC systems to include, but not limited to: rooftop equipment, cooling towers, DX split systems, specialized comfort cooling and task cooling equipment, centrifugal, screw and reciprocating chillers and compressors, kitchen equipment, fans, air handling units and other air moving equipment, computer room systems, steam, hot, chilled, condensate and condenser water distribution systems and support equipment, emergency power systems (HVAC related), mechanical, solid-state, electronic and pneumatic control systems.
- Monitors subcontractors in their tasks and provides reports when needed.
- Supervises the work of support staff (GMW, Tour Mechanic, Helper) as may be required.
Qualifications
- A current Universal CFC License.
- A current VA HVAC Tradesmen’s or DC Journeymen’s License is preferred, but not required.
- A High School diploma or GED.
- Five (5) or more years experience in performing maintenance and repair on commercial-industrial building equipment and support systems.
- Two (2) years of residential HVAC experience is acceptable for two years of trade experience.
- Documented experience in the operation and maintenance of centrifugal, reciprocating and screw chillers and compressors.
- Skilled in interpreting equipment operation, troubleshooting techniques, evaluating system performance and diagnosing and performing adjustments and repairs as needed and with limited supervision.
- Experience working with support trades (sheet metal, fire alarm, electrical, controls, etc) in the operation and support of HVAC systems.
- Proficient in basic plumbing and electrical skills as they relate to HVAC and life safety systems.
- Proficient in basic emergency power skills as they relate to HVAC operations.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and specifications.
- Practical knowledge of chiller plant operations.
- Practical knowledge of building automation systems.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to work shift work and overtime.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.

- Proficient in the use of common hand and power tools.
