Job Summary
The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems. This role ensures the reliable and efficient performance of mechanical systems while maintaining compliance with applicable codes, safety standards, and facility requirements. The position supports critical facility operations and requires strong technical expertise and a proactive approach to system maintenance and problem-solving.
Key Roles And Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair HVAC/R systems including heating systems, ventilation systems, air conditioners, refrigeration units, pumps, desiccant dehumidification systems, chillers, cooling towers, and clean steam humidification systems.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC/R infrastructure.
- Inspect systems to identify deficiencies, potential failures, and implement corrective actions.
- Lead HVAC/R-related maintenance and repair projects within facility operations -without supervisory authority.
- Serve as a lead, coordinating the work of others without direct supervisory authority.
- Develop scopes of work for system repairs, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
- Cookordinate work activities effectively with team members, contractors, and clients to ensure projects are completed efficiently and on schedule.
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation of work performed.
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal safety regulations and codes.
- Provide off-hour support for scheduled repairs, preventive maintenance activities, and operational assistance during weather-related events as required.
- Contribute to the overall success of Facilities Management & Engineering (FME) by performing additional essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant HVAC/R experience.
- Possession of an EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
- Knowledge of HVAC/R systems, electrical controls, and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret control schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to perform physical duties including frequently lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of a State of Maryland HVAC/R Journeyman License.
- Experience with Schneider EcoStruxure Building Automation System (BAS).
- Experience with Maximo Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Certification in building automation, HVAC/R controls, or related systems.
