Fortis Native Group is seeking a full-time HVAC Mechanic for our Southern California contract supporting Naval Base San Diego. This role involves performing preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial and industrial HVAC and mechanical systems in government facilities, ensuring safe, reliable, and uninterrupted operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on commercial and industrial HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain air handling units (AHUs), rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, heat pumps, chillers, boilers, exhaust fans, make-up air units, fan coil units, and air compressors.
  • Service chilled water, hydronic heating, condenser water, condensate, and pumping systems, including pumps, motors, valves, and heat exchangers.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions using blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Inspect, adjust, and replace belts, bearings, filters, motors, controls, dampers, and other HVAC system components.
  • Perform refrigerant recovery, leak detection, charging, and system testing in accordance with EPA regulations.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and complete scheduled maintenance and repairs in a timely manner.
  • Document inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, labor, and material usage using Smartsheet.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, NAVFAC, and contract requirements, following all company Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, subcontractors, and Government representatives to support facility operations and complete assigned work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of contract operations.
  • Create estimates as needed.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years’ experience in operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment and complex systems.
  • All certifications and licenses required by the State of California.
  • NATE Core Service with Air Distribution Service Specialty.
  • Universal EPA Technician Certification (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F) under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act Amendments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree or certification in a related field.
  • Prior experience working with Federal contracts.
  • Former Mechanical Technician experience.
  • Experience with Generator Systems and Fire Protection Systems.
