HVAC Mechanic
About the role
The Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) Mechanic provides all HVAC services at the CMI customer site in Beltsville, MD. Key responsibilities include operation and maintenance of HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical systems; providing repair, carpentry, and painting renovations; installing ductwork and chassis parts; cutting and bending tubing; joining tubing or pipes; installing evaporator units; installing expansion and discharge valves; connecting motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans; installing air and water filters; injecting refrigerant; testing systems; wrapping pipes in insulation; replacing defective components; and performing other HVAC related duties.
Responsibilities
- Operation and maintenance of HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical systems
- Provide repair, carpentry, and painting renovations
- Install ductwork and chassis parts
- Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape
- Join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units
- Install evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system
- Install expansion and discharge valves in circuit
- Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels
- Connect control panels to power source
- Install air and water filters in completed installation
- Inject small amount of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and add Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure
- Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation
- Test joints and connections for gas leaks
- Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure them in place with cement or wire bands
- Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units
- Perform other HVAC related duties as required
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- At least 5 years of HVAC Mechanic experience within a government facility
- Must possess a valid HVAC license and have experience in servicing and maintaining air conditioning systems
- Good understanding of 300 to 800 ton chillers and their operations and annual PMs
- Background in electrical high and low voltage A/C D/C
- Background on low pressure vessels boilers
- Knowledge of Lockout tag out/OSHA safety standards
- Knowledge of fire alarm and life safety standards, to include system testing
- Familiarity with life safety systems such as fire alarm, detection & suppression, standby generators, elevators etc.
- Must be able to fluently read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Must be able to pass a government background check
